Gavin Newsom reveals California Hall of Fame inductees after early Arnold Schwarzenegger snub

Governor Gavin Newsom announced the latest group of distinguished individuals to be honored in the California Hall of Fame on Tuesday, notably including former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger after his initial exclusion from the list.

Last summer, eyebrows were raised when Schwarzenegger, who had openly criticized Newsom’s congressional redistricting efforts, was conspicuously absent from the preliminary list of honorees. Many had anticipated his inclusion, given his role in founding the Hall of Fame.

This omission led to speculation about possible political motives behind the decision, especially considering Schwarzenegger’s instrumental role in establishing the Hall of Fame.

The 19th class of inductees features a diverse array of accomplished individuals, including acclaimed actress Jamie Lee Curtis, celebrated Olympic athletes Janet Evans and Carl Lewis, and renowned restaurateur Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, known for his Nobu restaurants.

The formal induction ceremony is scheduled for March 19, 2026, at the California Museum in Sacramento.

In a press release, Newsom’s office lauded Schwarzenegger as “a singular figure in California history, embodying the Golden State’s promise of opportunity.”

“From humble beginnings, he built himself into a world champion bodybuilder, Hollywood icon, successful businessman, environmentalist, philanthropist, bestselling author, and the 38th Governor of California,” the statement said.

Newsom’s redistricting plan ultimately got the support of state voters and the Supreme Court after a challenge by California Republicans.
