Grand Crossing, Chicago shooting: Police shoot, suspect who shot woman, fired at officers on South Ingleside Avenue, CPD says

CHICAGO (WLS) — In a dramatic incident on Chicago’s South Side, police shot and critically wounded a suspect accused of shooting a woman and engaging officers with gunfire. The confrontation took place Friday evening.

Authorities reported that the officers had been dispatched following a report of a domestic disturbance involving an individual armed with both a gun and a knife. This occurred in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, specifically within the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue, shortly after 7:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, the suspect, whose age has yet to be disclosed, attempted to escape while firing shots at the officers, according to police statements.

In response, two officers discharged their weapons, hitting the suspect multiple times. They immediately administered first aid at the scene.

The injured suspect was then transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he is in serious condition and remains under police custody.

Police recovered a firearm from the location, and the officers involved were taken to a nearby hospital for a precautionary check-up.

Before officers responded to the scene, police say, the suspect shot a 23-year-old woman at a home in the same block. The victim, who suffered two gunshot wounds to the arm, was transported to the same hospital, where she is listed in good condition.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability and CPD’s Investigative Response Team are investigating.

The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.

Further information was not immediately available.
