A shooting at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose, California, has left three individuals injured, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement. The incident, which coincided with the bustling Black Friday shopping rush, resulted in the victims being taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening.

San Jose Police Department shared updates on social media, stating, “Officers are still diligently clearing the mall.” They reassured the public that the shooting was an isolated event and not indicative of an active shooter situation. “Please continue to avoid the area,” the police urged the community as they continued their efforts to secure the mall.

Authorities emphasized the importance of public safety, underscoring their commitment to thoroughly evacuating and inspecting the premises to rule out further danger. The call to steer clear of the area remains in effect as officers undertake these precautionary measures.

Amid the chaotic scene, some shoppers took cover inside stores while police conducted their investigation. Images circulated on social media, depicting the tense atmosphere within the mall.

In a reassuring statement, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan took to social media to confirm, “There is no ongoing threat to the community.” His words offered some solace to residents and shoppers concerned about their safety following the incident.

“This is not the news I wanted to share with you this holiday weekend,” he wrote. “My prayers are with these victims and I know our officers are doing everything they can to find the person responsible and hold them accountable.”

Shoppers have shared photos and video across social media of themselves barricading in department stores and sharing real-time updates.

“Potential active shooter situation at valley fair mall in the silicon valley area, shoutout to @Abercrombie for the comfy hiding spot,” wrote @avgpearfarmer on X with photos showing Black Friday shoppers hiding behind store displays.
