Mayor Mamdani, reflecting on the lessons learned from last month’s snowstorm, made a significant announcement on Sunday: New York City public school students will enjoy a “full classic snow day” on Monday. This decision comes as a response to the criticism that followed the decision to keep classes open via remote learning during January’s severe snowstorm.

During that storm, the insistence on remote learning faced backlash, prompting Mamdani to reconsider the approach. Now, nearly one million students within the city’s school system can look forward to a day off, free from any remote learning obligations.

In a call that was shared on social media platform X, the mayor assured a student that there would be no requirement to log in for classes on Monday, emphasizing his commitment to a traditional snow day experience.

Coinciding with this announcement, the city is bracing for a significant snow event. Predictions indicate that Sunday’s storm could blanket parts of the city with up to 28 inches of snow, with the blizzard conditions expected to persist into Monday morning.

In light of the anticipated weather, Mayor Mamdani has advised students and residents to stay indoors during the peak of the storm, which is set to intensify on Sunday evening. This precaution aims to ensure the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers as the city navigates the wintery onslaught.

Mamdani has urged students and residents to remain indoors during the height of the storm, which is expected to hit Sunday evening.
