Here comes the bride…eventually.
During their first joint appearance on “Today with Jenna & Friends” on Wednesday, Halle Berry and Van Hunt revealed that Hunt, who is 55, has already asked Berry, who is 58, to marry him. However, she has yet to give her answer.
“I’ve proposed, but as you can see, it’s still waiting,” Hunt mentioned on Today. “It’s just out there. Maybe you could help persuade her.”
Berry explained that she hasn’t agreed to marry the singer-songwriter because of their romantic histories.
“I’ve been married three times before,” Berry explained. “Van has had one marriage, so we feel no pressure to wed in order to prove our love. We simply don’t need to.”
The “X-Men” actress was previously married to former MLB player David Justice from 1993 to 1996, singer and actor Eric Benét from 2001 to 2003, and French actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2015.
She shares son Maceo-Robert, 11, with Martinez and daughter Nahla Ariela, 17, with model Gabriel Aubry, whom she dated from 2005 to 2010.
“I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” Berry told Today about Hunt. “And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
When asked when she plans to wed Hunt, Berry replied: “Soon.”
Berry and Hunt started dating in 2020.
On “Today with Jenna and Friends,” Berry explained that the couple met through Hunt’s brother, who worked for her menopause company, Respin.
Before we ever got together in any physical kind of way, I had fallen madly in love just through talking, and telling, and sharing every single thing—all of our good, our bad, our dirty,” she explained to Jenna Bush Hager.
“We were completely honest because we were in COVID, and who cares?” Berry added.
Last year, Berry told Marie Claire about Hunt, “It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex.”
“That has never happened to me, ever. Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical,” the Oscar winner shared, before calling Hunt her “person.”
Berry has also credited Hunt for making her a “much better mother” to her two kids.
“I just feel fulfilled. I feel happy in my life romantically, as a mother, as an artist,” she told Women’s Health in 2021. “I’m a much better mother in this circumstance than I would have been had I stayed in a romantic relationship that didn’t serve me and didn’t make me feel the way I need to feel as a woman.”
