Hamas accepts Trump peace plan ending 2 years of war in Gaza, returning hostages

Hamas has consented to a peace agreement initiated by President Donald Trump to conclude the conflict in Gaza and secure the return of hostages. This agreement comes two years after the terrorist organization attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, leading to a deadly war and a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

President Trump announced the deal on Truth Social, stating, “I am incredibly pleased to declare that Israel and Hamas have both approved the initial phase of our Peace Plan. This ensures that all hostages will be freed soon, and as a preliminary move towards enduring peace, Israel will pull back its troops to a predefined line. Fair treatment for all parties has been assured! This marks a monumental day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, neighboring nations, and the United States. We extend our gratitude to the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who collaborated with us to realize this historic occasion. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

In a conversation with Sean Hannity, Trump mentioned that he anticipates the hostages will be released on Monday. However, he did not confirm whether he plans to visit the region, despite an invitation from Netanyahu to address the Israeli parliament on Sunday.

Just prior to the announcement, images surfaced from the negotiation room in Sharm el-Sheikh depicting senior officials celebrating progress toward a deal to release hostages, including Retired General Nitzan Alon shaking hands with Qatar’s Prime Minister Al-Thani, with special envoy Steve Witkoff in view.

Trump also commended the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for their “bravery, resolve, and tremendous sacrifice that led to this significant achievement.”

He expressed support for the families of the hostages, eagerly awaiting the return of their loved ones, including IDF soldiers and heroes who have fallen. Katz highlighted that “the nation is both expectant and elated at this development.”

The IDF also released a statement on social media, welcoming “the signing of the agreement for the return of the hostages, which was signed overnight.”
