'Intentional' explosion at Harvard University medical building under investigation; no injuries reported

The Boston Fire Department’s Arson Unit has determined that an explosion at a Harvard University medical building was likely deliberate.

In Washington, authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred early Saturday morning. The explosion took place around 2:48 a.m. inside the Goldenson Building on Harvard University’s campus. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, according to Harvard University Police.

Emergency responders arrived after a fire alarm was triggered, where they noticed two “unidentified” individuals fleeing the scene. University police stated that an officer attempted to intercept the individuals before proceeding to the building’s fourth floor, where the alarm originated.

Officials have released blurred images of the two suspects, who appeared to be wearing face coverings and sweatshirts.

The Boston Fire Department’s Arson Unit concluded that the explosion was intentional, but assured the public that no additional explosive devices were discovered.
