Meet 35-year-old David Luplow, whose journey with Down syndrome has never hindered his generous heart.

Recently, Luplow was honing his math skills with his instructor at the Rising Lights Project in Saint Charles. This institution caters to adults with Down syndrome and other disabilities.

“David is the heart and soul of any gathering and has a passion for Elvis,” shared Jessica Trevino from the Rising Lights Project.

Despite facing his own challenges, David prioritizes the welfare of others. His dedication to saving money year-round enables him to contribute toys to the South Elgin Fire District’s Toys for Tots drive.

“Boys and girls games, puzzles, coloring books,” Luplow said.

This year Luplow saved enough to buy nearly 100 toys to donate. He shops with his parents for the gifts then drops them off at the station.

“I love it, makes me feel like we’ve done something right as parents,” mother Patty Luplow said.

“Proud dad, oh yes, very proud,” father David Luplow Sr. said.

The firefighters have served as a drop-off for toys for years. And they say the community has always responded, but Luplow’s efforts take things to a new level.

“Tremendous amount of selflessness, lot of giving and thinking of others,” Fire Chief William Luchsinger said.

While the toys are on their way to Christmas trees all around Kane County, they say they will continue to collect toys at the fire station, and hope Luplow’s generosity is contagious.
