On Monday, the former husband of First Lady Jill Biden was taken into custody and charged with the first-degree murder of his current wife.

According to the New Castle County Police Department, William Stevenson, aged 77, faces charges of first-degree murder following the death of his 64-year-old wife, Linda Stevenson. Details of the indictment were shared in a statement from the department.

Linda Stevenson was discovered unresponsive in the living room of their Delaware residence late last December, as reported by CBS News. Unfortunately, she was declared dead at the scene.

The police have not yet disclosed the cause of death, but they did acknowledge a “domestic dispute” had occurred, which led William Stevenson to dial 911, according to ABC News.

Jill Tracy Jacobs, who became Jill Biden, married William Stevenson in 1970 at the age of 18, while he was 23. Their marriage lasted five years before they divorced. In 1977, she wed then-Senator Joe Biden, as noted by NBC News.

William and Linda Stevenson tied the knot in the mid-1980s.

William Stevenson has been booked into the Howard Young Correctional Institution on a $500,000 bond.
