In 2006, a new rule was implemented following the incident involving “Shoe Bomber” Richard Reid, who attempted to detonate explosives concealed in his shoes during a flight from Paris to Miami in December 2001.

This was a great decision that should have come long ago to a largely pointless rule.
I’m not sure how much support such a bill would have, with Democrats often standing in the way of sense.
The Trump administration and the GOP are tackling numerous issues, but if they could push this initiative further, it could result in significant, overdue reform. They have demonstrated a readiness to address unreasonable policies, as seen with DOGE. If similar efforts were applied to the TSA, it could pave the way for success in the 2026 elections and lead to a more efficient system.
