Investigators say an elderly man hit a man on a scooter.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man lost his life Friday night after being struck while riding a scooter on Moncrief Road. This incident marks the 75th traffic-related death in Duval County for the year.

The collision took place around 8:55 p.m. in the 4900 block of Moncrief Road. Investigators reported that an older man driving north attempted to merge into the left turn lane and collided with a man on a scooter.

After the first collision, another vehicle — a white SUV driven by a man estimated to be in his mid-50s — also hit the scooter rider. This driver left the scene, according to the police.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Moncrief Road was shut down for about an hour as officers processed the scene and launched an investigation into the hit-and-run.

Anyone with information about the white SUV or its driver is urged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
