A family in Houston is desperately seeking answers following the tragic shooting death of their 17-year-old daughter at a house party.
According to reports from Fox 26 Houston, Mariah Alatorre lost her life while attending a gathering with friends on Dagg Road, located on the city’s South Side, during the early hours of Valentine’s Day.
Houston police have indicated that Alatorre became an unintended victim when gunfire erupted at the event.
Per ABC 13, the young woman was initially rushed to an emergency room before being transferred to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, where she was later declared dead.

While the police department has not released further details to Fox News Digital, they have announced plans to hold a news conference later in the day.
No suspect is in custody at this time.

“She believed that everybody was her friend,” Yady Alatorre, the mother of the victim, told Fox 26.
“I would tell her, like, some people are not your friends. And she was just like, no, you just don’t know them. They’re my friends. And I wish she just understood that, you know, a mom knows best,” the elder Alatorre added.
