As the conflict between the United States and Iran stretches into its sixth day, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth aimed to reassure both Central and South America that the United States remains committed to addressing issues within its own region.
Speaking at the U.S. military’s Southern Command in Doral, Florida, Hegseth emphasized, “President Trump understands the importance of the Monroe Doctrine, and we are committed to prioritizing the safety and interests of our own citizens.”

Hegseth further elaborated, saying, “President Trump has revived the principles of the Monroe Doctrine, introducing what can be referred to as the ‘Trump corollary,’ or more succinctly, the ‘Donroe Doctrine.'” He stressed that under President Trump’s leadership, safeguarding America’s interests in the Western Hemisphere and ensuring the security of the homeland are paramount national security objectives.
The term “Donroe Doctrine” was first highlighted by The Post in January 2025, reflecting Trump’s ambition to prevent foreign adversaries from establishing a presence in the Western Hemisphere.
