Minneapolis ICE shooter identified as agent Jonathan Ross

The recent fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer has drawn considerable attention. The officer involved has been identified as Jonathan Ross, according to reports from the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Ross, aged 43, has been with ICE since at least 2016. The Minneapolis Star Tribune was the first to disclose his identity in connection with the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. As reported by The Intercept, Ross previously resided in Texas and is currently based at the ICE field office in St. Paul.

In a separate incident last June, Ross was involved in an ICE operation in Minneapolis that turned violent. During the arrest, Ross was dragged 100 yards by an undocumented driver, sustaining severe injuries to his hand and arm that required over 30 stitches, as documented in court records.

During this encounter, Ross employed a Taser in an attempt to subdue the driver, Roberto Carlos Munoz, a Guatemalan sex offender. Despite this, Munoz managed to evade arrest temporarily. Last month, Munoz attempted to convince a jury that he was unaware of Ross’s status as a federal agent, a defense that was ultimately unsuccessful.

Ross’s identity became a point of contention on Wednesday when video taken by witnesses showed the masked officer firing three shots at Good as the mother of three drove forward as agents tried opening her vehicle’s door.

Renee Nicole Good was shot shortly after dropping off her 6-year-old child at school, as recounted by her ex-husband. The incident occurred only blocks from her home, while she was in the company of her current partner. Her former husband described Good as a devout Christian, noting that she had not been known for political activism or participation in protests.

Born in Colorado, Good was a U.S. citizen who, aside from a traffic ticket, had no criminal charges against her.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed after the shooting that Good committed an act of “domestic terrorism” and defended Ross for protecting himself and other officers. She alleged that Good was using her vehicle to assault law enforcement officers.

Vice President JD Vance also defended Ross in a White House speech on Thursday, where he lashed out at “the media” and accused Good of being part of a “broader left-wing network” targeting ICE officers.
