U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launched Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago this week, targeting and arresting multiple criminal illegal immigrants. Fox News was given exclusive access to ride along with the agents as the operation unfolded.
On Tuesday, ICE agents apprehended a Mexican national who was wanted on a federal criminal arrest warrant for repeatedly reentering the United States illegally. Fox News reported that he had been deported twice before returning a third time. In addition, he faced charges for an earlier assault case.
Fox News captured the moment agents approached the Mexican national near his residence. When he attempted to evade arrest by getting into his car, ICE agents had to smash the window to pull him out, despite his continued resistance.
The Mexican national will face federal criminal prosecution before he is deported, potentially spending time in jail, Fox News learned.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that this operation was conducted in memory of Katie Abraham, a 20-year-old who lost her life in a drunk-driving hit-and-run accident in Illinois. The incident earlier this year involved an illegal immigrant from Guatemala.
Katie Abraham was tragically killed in January when a suspected illegal immigrant, believed to be intoxicated, crashed into her vehicle at high speed. Her father, Joe Abraham, appeared on “FOX & Friends” Tuesday morning, expressing his hope that Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and other officials collaborate with the Trump administration to ensure the safety of their streets.
“My daughter was taken, we are separated, I will never see her again,” he said. “She got death, I got a life sentence.”
The operation is being carried out with other federal partners, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Marshals Service.
The operation is expected to last weeks, like May’s Operation Patriot in Boston which resulted in over 1,500 criminal alien apprehensions.
