In Bizarre SOTU Detour, Biden Blames January 6th For the Recent Attack on Paul Pelosi
Share this

Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech was predictably weak, and predictably full of lies. From pretending the border is a priority to ignoring Chinese incursion of American air space last week, Biden didn’t even try to bend the truth. He just read bold-faced lies from the teleprompter.

But perhaps the most bizarre moment of the night came when Biden stopped to “honor” Mr. Nancy Pelosi (Paul), who was sitting in the gallery next to the Ukrainian Ambassador whose name the President couldn’t read (instead, he skipped right over it) and (oddly enough) Bono, of U2 fame.

As you’ll recall, Paul Pelosi was attacked in his home by a mentally ill man described as a “friend.” The original media narrative described Pelosi’s assailant, David DePape, as an antisemitic, January 6th-ish, right wing nutjob, but video released later showed the two were handcuffed together when police showed up at Pelosi’s door after being called to the house. Pelosi seemed almost casual before the man turned on him with a hammer. It seemed obvious the two knew each other in some way. We’ve never gotten a complete explanation for what happened in the Pelosi home that evening (even the police seemed confused), but the mainstream press did later report that DePape was severely mentally ill, homeless, and a longtime drug addict prone to hallucinations.

From The Washington Post:

The San Francisco Bay area man arrested in the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband filled a blog a week before the incident with delusional thoughts, including that an invisible fairy attacked an acquaintance and sometimes appeared to him in the form of a bird, according to online writings under his name.

What he obviously was not was a man inspired by the havoc at the Capitol or by right-wing politics in general. In fact, besides Pelosi’s involvement, there seemed to be no indication of politics being a factor in any way.

So it was strange, or perhaps just gross, that Biden chose to frame the attack on the former Speaker’s husband as political violence, blaming the events of January 6th as inspiration.

The last few years our democracy’s been threatened and attacked, put at risk, put to the test in this very room on January the 6th; and just a few months ago an unhinged big lie assailant unleashed a political violence at the home of the then Speaker of the House representatives using the very same language the insurrectionists used as they stalked these halls and chanted on January 6. Here tonight in this chamber is the man who bares the scars of that brutal attack but is as tough and as strong and as resilient as they get. My friend Paul Pelosi.

Naturally, there was no mention of Pelosi’s very naughty (and dangerous) DUI that Governor Newsom recently had swept under the rug for his pretend auntie and uncle.

By this point, this is a completely fabricated narrative and everyone knows it. The Democrats did their duty and stood and clapped for Pelosi, but every single person in that chamber knows the truth about Pelosi’s attacker, even if the rest of us don’t have the full picture.

No matter. As Biden’s former Commander in Chief Barrack Obama once famously said, never let a good crisis go to waste. Paul Pelosi being brutally attacked by a mentally ill drug addict who was apparently known to the family was a crisis that could not go to waste, and so did not, in a speech that was riddled with human waste.
