ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Authorities have apprehended a 63-year-old man following an incident involving gunfire with a deputy near a Clay Electric Cooperative building, as reported by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
A spokesperson for CCSO gave an update on the incident at a press conference Saturday evening.
Around 1:00 p.m., deputies reportedly overheard a disturbance call about an armed person who just left the scene in the Orange Park city limits.
Not long after, CCSO indicated that deputies spotted a car resembling the suspect’s vehicle near the Clay Electric Building situated on Blanding Boulevard.
Deputies started to approach the suspect, who they say got out of the car and started shooting at the building and around the gates.
Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, CCSO stated that the suspect aimed his gun at the deputies. In response, a deputy fired at the suspect, though officials confirmed the suspect was not hit by the shots.
The suspect threw his weapon towards them on the ground, was tased and taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigation teams remained on-site as of 6 p.m. on Saturday, continuing to look into the incident. CCSO added that detectives are in the process of determining the charges the man will face.
