Influencer Sara Monteiro allegedly funded lavish lifestyle with drug-trafficking money

A Brazilian beauty queen has found herself at the center of a scandal, accused of using illicit drug-trafficking profits to fund her extravagant lifestyle, just weeks after predicting a “year of karma” in 2026.

Social media influencer Sara Monteiro, known for flaunting her opulent lifestyle to over 107,000 followers, was arrested in Sao Paulo on Wednesday. Her arrest was part of “Operation Luxury,” a significant crackdown on drug-related activities.

Monteiro, who operated a women’s fashion boutique, a business that allegedly inspired the operation’s name, frequently shared glimpses of her luxurious vacations, yacht parties, and visits to the Tomorrowland music festival. However, according to lead investigator Rafael Herrera, her lifestyle was “economically incompatible” with her known income, as reported by Globo.

Authorities suspect that Monteiro, who was crowned Miss Uberlandia 2025 at the age of 36, benefited financially from an operation allegedly distributing marijuana throughout Brazil.

Further fueling the investigation, she was reportedly spotted near a rural property used as a hub for drug transportation while walking her dog, raising more questions about her activities.

Monteiro now faces charges of money laundering, drug trafficking, and participation in an organized crime syndicate, just weeks after her ironically timed social media post about the upcoming year.

“This year is the year of karma. Good luck to everyone who tried to destroy me for nothing, I’m looking forward to the harvest!” she said.

Cops have already seized 5.9 tons of marijuana as part of a wider investigation and are searching for the influencer’s husband.
