A well-known Florida influencer and mother-to-be faces criticism after her extravagant gender reveal put her and her unborn child at risk.
Lele Pons, from Miami, hosted a lavish party with a showy stunt to announce the gender of their baby.
Standing alongside her husband, Pons was on stage with a backdrop displaying “Team Boy” behind him and “Team Girl” behind her. A crowd in rain ponchos gathered beneath each banner in anticipation.
The expectant parents then pressed down on a handle that read “TNT” â and turned around to see pink gloop shooting out of the “Team Girl” side.
The sketchy substance rushed out, covering the people standing under the sign.
The liquid burst out with such force that it swiftly inundated the stage, resulting in Lele slipping and falling, while her husband exuberantly leapt into the air.
Amidst the celebration, the expectant mother struggled to regain her balance and kept slipping. It wasn’t until her husband noticed her predicament that he turned to see her in need of assistance.
Lele laughed it off as her husband held her upright, but viewers did not find the situation as hilarious.
The video quickly went viral on Instagram and people were not impressed.
“Omg this is so dangerous. Not even funny,” one person noted echoing many of the other comments.
“A girl but at what cost, it was almost not any gender,” another said.
“Did she nearly lose her child over a gender reveal?” someone asked.
“Literally the most dangerous reveal I have seen!” another person commented.
While people’s reactions may seem a bit explosive, they come as people have increasingly rejected gender reveal theatrics after some have ended in wildfires, jailtime and even death.
Several years ago, the woman credited with inventing the trend even began begging the public to stop the âtoxicâ practice.
