Authorities have issued a warning about an inmate deemed “armed and dangerous” who made a daring escape from an Atlanta hospital early Monday morning.

According to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, inmate Timothy Shane managed to flee from Grady Memorial Hospital, where he had been taken for medical evaluation following a reported suicide attempt.

Shane was brought to the hospital around 8 p.m. on Sunday by National Emergency Medical Services alongside sheriff’s deputies. The escape occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. Monday while he was under the supervision of a deputy.

Following the escape, the owner of a nearby stolen SUV reported that a Glock handgun was missing from the vehicle. Investigators suspect Shane initially fled the hospital area on foot, subsequently stealing the parked SUV. He later crashed the vehicle and is believed to have continued his escape on foot, possibly armed with the handgun.

The sheriff’s office highlighted Shane’s history of evading capture and noted his criminal background, which includes charges related to drugs and weapons. They strongly advise the public to consider him “armed and dangerous.”

Shane is described as a White male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a buzz-style haircut. He was last seen wearing a blue hospital gown and no shoes.

Grady Memorial Hospital told Fox News Digital that its policy requires custodial law enforcement agencies to maintain “one-to-one oversight” of inmates receiving treatment at the hospital at all times.
