High-ranking officials in Iran have refuted claims made by former President Trump that the Iranian regime requested a ceasefire, asserting that Tehran remains resolute in its determination to prevail in the ongoing conflict.
An official representative for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s office dismissed Trump’s statement on Truth Social, which alleged that Iran had approached the United States seeking a peace agreement.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s stance on defending our homeland against the attacks of malevolent forces and the terms for ending this externally imposed conflict remains unchanged. We completely dismiss the delusional and false narratives of the criminal aggressors,” stated Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei on X.
He further emphasized, “The Iranian people, unwavering and united, are committed to safeguarding the core of our nation. #Unity is our path to victory.”
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, reinforced this denial by labeling Trump’s statements as “false and baseless,” according to reports from state media.
Additionally, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reiterated Iran’s firm commitment to maintaining complete control over the Strait of Hormuz in a separate declaration.
âThis strait will not be opened to the enemies of this nation through the ridiculous spectacle by the president of the United States,â The IRGC said.
The statements from Iran come after Trump said he had received a request for a cease-fire from Iran, one that he was willing to consider if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
âIranâs New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!â Trump posted on Truth Social.
âWe will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!â he threatened.
Trump did not say who the ânew regime presidentâ that he was speaking to was.
It has previously been reported that Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf is leading the talks with mediators, but he has previously mocked Trump over past claims that a cease-fire deal was progressing.
The presidentâs announcement came before the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq opened for trading. Over recent weeks, Trump has made several significant announcements about progress in Iran before markets opened.
As mediators in the Middle East work to set up direct talks between Tehran and Washington, Iranâs leadership has maintained that the war will not end until they receive reparations from the US and Israel.
Iranâs parliament has also passed legislation that would see the Islamic republic permanently control the Strait of Hormuz and charge tolls for ships to pass through the key trade route for as much as $2 million.
