US seeks to deploy $15M 'Dark Eagle' hypersonic missile for the first time against Iran: report

The United States military is contemplating the deployment of its cutting-edge long-range hypersonic missile to the Middle East, potentially targeting ballistic-missile launchers situated in Iran.

According to a source familiar with the situation, US Central Command has requested the deployment, citing that Iran has repositioned its launchers beyond the reach of the Precision Strike missile, which has a range of over 300 miles, Bloomberg reports.

If approved, this would represent the inaugural deployment of the hypersonic missile by the US, despite the weapon not yet being declared fully operational.

This request remains confidential, while a delicate ceasefire between the US and Iran has been in effect since April 8. Nonetheless, President Trump has consistently hinted at the possibility of reviving military conflict with Iran, as diplomatic negotiations for peace continue to face challenges.

The Army’s Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon, dubbed Dark Eagle, boasts an impressive range of 1,725 miles. It is engineered for precise, long-distance strikes against strategically critical and well-guarded targets, as noted by the Library of Congress.

Reportedly, each missile comes with a price tag of approximately $15 million, and the current arsenal consists of fewer than eight missiles. Additionally, each missile battery is estimated to cost around $2.7 billion, as per Bloomberg’s information.

Adversaries like Russia and China have already deployed the weapons, the outlet reported.

CENTCOM did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Trump, meanwhile, doubled down on his 16-day blockade of Iran’s oil exports Wednesday — after rejecting an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping, while setting aside the nuclear issue for a later date.

“The blockade is genius, okay? The blockade has been 100% foolproof,” Trump told reporters.

“Now, they have to cry uncle, that’s all they have to do. Just say, ‘We give up.’”
