Earlier this month, Israel conducted an airstrike targeting and eliminating a terrorist involved in the kidnapping of an Israeli citizen on October 7, 2023, authorities reported on Tuesday.
The airstrike, which was executed in Gaza on August 10, resulted in the death of Jihad Kamal Salem Najjar, as announced by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet.
“Part of my closure happened today. I extend my gratitude to the IDF, the Shin Bet, and everyone who contributed to taking down one of the terrorists who abducted me on October 7,” Yarden Bibas conveyed through a statement from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. “Thanks to your efforts, he will not harm others.”

Hamas often uses hostage videos as part of what the IDF calls “psychological terror.”
Following Yarden Bibas’ release, his family expressed, “A portion of our heart has returned after 15 arduous months. Yarden is back with us, yet our family remains incomplete.”
After the Hamas attack, the Bibas family became a symbol of the terror group’s brutality. A video of Shiri Bibas cradling her two young, red-haired children spread worldwide.
Images of the Bibas family alongside 84-year-old Oded Lifshitz, who was also abducted during Hamas’ deadly attack on October 7, 2023, and subsequently killed, were exhibited with candles in the dining hall of Kibbutz Nir Oz. Their bodies were returned to Israel following a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, coinciding with the day of Lifshitz’s funeral on February 25, 2025.
In April, Israel said it had killed Mohammed Hassan Mohammed Awad, a senior commander in the Palestinian Mujahideen terrorist organization and who helped lead “several” attacks on the Nir Oz kibbutz.
