The Italian government plans to impose stricter regulations on gender transition medical treatments for minors through new legislation, as outlined in a draft law.
The law, passed late Monday by Italy’s cabinet, is awaiting parliamentary approval. The government argues the law aims to “protect the health of minors” and ensure “effective data monitoring.”
This legislation would govern the use of puberty blockers and gender-modifying hormones for individuals under 18 who experience gender dysphoria.

Meloni’s government has already taken measures to make it more challenging for gay couples with children to both be legally recognized as parents and has banned using surrogacy abroad for all couples.
The draft bill could still face rejection or modifications in parliament, though approval is likely, given Meloni’s coalition’s strong majority and support for its goals.
