A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the death of Cassandra Brown.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman who was fatally shot in the head late Friday night as Cassandra Brown, described as being in her 60s.
A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Friends of Brown knew her by the nickname “Shawty,” and they remembered her as someone who was always there to support and uplift others when they needed it most.
A memorial is growing in the neighborhood where Brown was killed, as her loss has shaken this entire community.

Roderick Dorsey is now left with only the memories of his longtime friend.
“Wonderful person. The community is gonna miss her. The community is really gonna miss her,” said Dorsey. “Shawty was a good person.”
Brown was shot in the head and killed Friday night on Grothe Street, according to police.
Investigators said a ShotSpotter notification alerted officers to the shooting.
Friends who were there said Brown was listening to music and hanging out with people, something she always did.

“Shawty was a fun-loving person,” recalled Dorsey. “People gravitated towards Shawty because of who she was. She could just sit down, mind her own business, and soon enough, she’d be surrounded by people. They’d play cards, share stories, and enjoy drinks together. She was a genuinely cool person.”
Friends like Dorsey said Brown was the kind of person who could bring people together. Now, they’re left with heartbreak and questions.
“My heart goes out to her family. They are devastated,” said Dorsey, “If you know something, say something.”
Police have not named a suspect or released a motive.
They are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
