The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is looking for second driver in the fatal Moncrief hit-and-run that killed local Randy Fine.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is identifying the man who died in the Moncrief hit and run Friday night as Randy Fine.**
Police are still searching for the second driver who hit him and fled the scene.
According to police, the driver of the first car that hit him remained on scene, while the driver of the second car, a white SUV, drove away.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released the picture of the man who they say was driving that SUV. He’s believed to be in his mid-50s.
Councilwoman Ju’coby Pittman represents District 10, which includes Moncrief Road, a key corridor into Jacksonville’s urban core.
“I’ve noticed there’s speed signs that are supposed to be in place are in place. So I think that this was an accident,” she said.
Latiffany Boyd knew Randy Fine. “He is a good person,” said Boyd.
Boyd uses a skateboard to get around and mentions that, despite the speed limit signs, she suspects drivers aren’t consistently following them. “They speed by too quickly, they speed by too quickly. I’m afraid to ride my skateboard these days because I’m unsure who might hit me. I have to constantly check behind me, constantly check behind me.”
With the sheriff’s office still in search of the second driver, community members are urging him to turn himself in to police.
“I regret that this incident occurred, but personally, I want the individual who hit him the second time to be identified to understand ‘why did you leave the scene?’ It’s unacceptable,” stated Pittman.
“You got to do the right thing because there’s somebody out there mourning him and missing him,” Boyd said.
If you have any information about the white SUV or its driver call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
