James Conyers was found guilty of killing 28-year-old Terrill Trumble and stealing his Xbox. Police say they were friends.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In Jacksonville, a man has received a life sentence for second-degree murder and dealing in stolen property after he killed another man and stole his Xbox, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports. He had previously robbed the same victim, taking an earlier Xbox from him.

James Conyers, aged 45, was apprehended for the murder of 28-year-old Terrill Trumble in 2023. On the day of Trumble’s death, Conyers attempted to sell items pilfered from Trumble’s apartment, including a shotgun, a laptop, and an Xbox.

Trumble’s body was discovered by a friend visiting to check on him. The friend found him lying in a pool of blood on the bathroom floor and noticed the Xbox was missing, a detail he later shared with the police.

Police determined both Xboxes were sold to the same store. Police were able to track one of the devices after it was sold and trace it back to Conyers.

It was determined that Conyers had been at Trumble’s apartment earlier in the day, and he took the new Xbox to the store less than nine hours after he left the crime scene. Police used this information to determine probable cause to arrest Conyers for murder.

Conyers was found guilty at his trial April 30, and was sentenced Monday.
