Devonne Rivers, 20, was already in jail for an “ambush” that occurred in Arlington before the new charges in a separate case were brought forward.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man already held at the Duval County Jail for an attempted murder charge has now been charged with two additional counts of murder related to a 2024 double homicide on Garden Street, according to a Tuesday announcement by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Devonne Rivers, 20, received two counts of second-degree murder on Monday concerning the double murder incident, as per jail records. Rivers was already incarcerated following his December arrest for an “ambush” in Arlington, during which a man was shot multiple times, according to the JSO.
The double murder on Garden Street occurred on April 7, 2024. Initially, the JSO responded to reports of a vehicle blocking the road in the 7000 block of the area.
When patrol officers arrived at the scene, JSO said they found the vehicle riddled with multiple bullet holes and two men identified as 45-year-old Travis Williams and 40-year-old Anton Brown inside.
After JSO conducted its investigation into the incident, the agency said Tuesday it deemed Rivers “responsible for the double murder.”
As for the ambush Rivers is accused of taking part in, he faces attempted murder, shooting or throwing deadly missiles into a vehicle and armed trespassing charges for that case, according to jail records.
