In 2024, Gary Legg faced charges for the fatal shooting of Courtney McCoy in Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man accused of causing the death of a 19-year-old woman in Jacksonville has entered a guilty plea to manslaughter six years after the incident.

Now 26, Gary Legg altered his plea to guilty on Wednesday and is awaiting sentencing for the tragic events that occurred in a residence on Labelle Street back in 2019. At the time, Legg and the victim, identified by her family as Courtney McCoy, were reportedly with several others in April when she was fatally shot in the torso.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that McCoy succumbed to her injuries at the hospital during surgery.

Legg was apprehended by JSO in January 2024. According to a social media update by the agency, they concluded that Legg and McCoy had been together at some point, and a firearm in Legg’s possession discharged, hitting McCoy.

Court documents indicate that his sentencing is scheduled for November 3.
