New insights emerged Tuesday about the substantial police activity at a Winn-Dixie in Orange Park on Monday night, following an alarming incident involving a stabbing victim.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a man from Jacksonville, identified as 38-year-old Billy Clark Foster, drove to the parking lot of the Winn-Dixie at 1339 Blanding Blvd. seeking urgent help after being stabbed multiple times.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies arrived at the scene around 8:40 p.m. upon receiving a call about a man with apparent stab wounds inside a vehicle, desperately requesting assistance.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Foster had been involved in a violent altercation at the Cypress Pointe Apartments, located at 25 Knight Boxx Rd., just across from the Winn-Dixie.
During the confrontation, Foster sustained several stab wounds and managed to drive to the grocery store, seemingly in a bid to find help, as detailed by the sheriff’s office. Upon arrival, deputies, alongside Clay County Fire Rescue, administered medical aid before transporting him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
During the altercation, Foster was stabbed multiple times before driving to the store in an “apparent attempt to seek help,” CCSO said. Deputies and Clay County Fire Rescue responded and provided Foster medical treatment, as he was then taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The individual who called 911 reportedly discovered Foster while passing by and is not believed to be involved in the incident, CCSO said.
Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the altercation, according to CCSO.
