In March 2010, 16-year-old Tiphne Hollis was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting. Her case remains unsolved, but her family is determined to keep her memory alive.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Lenox Square on Jacksonville’s Westside has been renamed in honor of a Jacksonville teenager who was killed 15 years ago.

The murder of Tiphne Hollis is classified as a cold case after over a decade. She lost her life in a drive-by shooting on Belfort Street, located in the Mixon town area.

Her mother isn’t giving up hope and is persistent in keeping Hollis’ name alive.

Now, the street leading to the foundation and school formed in her honor also bears her name.

Hollis’ family has been relentlessly pursuing justice since her death. They have organized marches, distributed flyers, and publicly pleaded for anyone with information to come forward to identify her shooter.

“It’s a sad situation. My daughter is gone. And it’s sad that we are all still out here fighting for justice, but the good thing is that we are keeping Hollis’ legacy alive. That’s the best thing of anything,” said Hollis’ mother, Shanda Whitaker-Ward.

Whitaker-Ward says she will stop at nothing for her daughter to get justice.

“We truly truly miss her, and I’m going to keep her legacy alive. When I’m gone, it will be here forever, and people will remember her,” Whitaker-Ward said.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new street will be held in August.

If you know anything about what happened to Hollis, it’s never too late to call in a tip.
