Jeanine Pirro Confirmed As DC's Top Prosecutor—but Dems Stall Other Nominees

Although the GOP scored a victory on that one, not everything went smoothly:

A former New York judge and prosecutor, as well as a previous Fox News presenter, was among over 150 nominees on the Senate’s agenda. Senate Republicans were striving to overcome the blockading of President Trump’s nominees by Senate Democrats. This effort involved a series of nominations scheduled for votes over the weekend. However, just before the vote for her confirmation, negotiations were disrupted, resulting in only seven of Trump’s picks being confirmed before lawmakers adjourned until September.

Many recognize her as a bold Fox News figure frequently co-hosting “The Five.” Known widely as “Judge Jeanine,” she boasts a long legal career highlighted by the Department of Justice:

Jeanine Ferris Pirro was sworn-in as interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia on May 14, 2025.

Judge Pirro has accumulated more than 30 years in law enforcement. She started as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County, NY, then became the first female judge elected in the Westchester County Court. Later, she was elected as Westchester County District Attorney for three terms and served as the first female president of the New York State District Attorneys Association.

Ms. Pirro is credited with founding the nation’s first domestic violence unit in a prosecutor’s office and pioneering various victim-oriented programs. She has authored eight books, several of which are New York Times bestsellers.

In July, she vowed to clean up Washington, D.C., among other priorities:

I am streamlining processes and countering D.C.’s sanctuary city policies to safeguard the diligent citizens of our nation’s capital. We will no longer have illegal immigrants entangled in our criminal justice system.

I don’t see that the president has commented yet on the confirmation on social media, but he said this in May:

“Jeanine is incredibly well-qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York,” Trump said when he nominated Pirro. “She is in a class by herself.”

Democrats had tried and failed to paint her as an extremist who defended Trump on television regarding the events of Jan. 6 and his concerns that there was evidence of fraud in the 2020 election. During a committee meeting in July, Senate Dems walked out in a snit over procedural matters concerning Pirro and Emil Bove, who was later confirmed for a spot as judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals.

Blah blah blah.
