AIKEN, S.C. () – An incident in Aiken has led to serious allegations against a local man, who is now facing charges of kidnapping and assaulting his son.

On October 25th, the troubling events unfolded on Peacock Court in Aiken, where the victim was spending time with her son and other children at the residence of the suspect’s mother.

The suspect, identified as Derrick Carter, allegedly returned home under the influence of alcohol. This prompted the victim to decide it was time to leave with her son.

According to reports, Carter reacted aggressively, grabbing the woman by the neck and dragging her outside, where he allegedly threw her to the ground.

During this altercation, the child reportedly attempted to defend his mother by hitting Carter, who then allegedly retaliated by punching his son in the face.

Amidst the chaos, the victim instructed her child to get into the car, at which point Carter reportedly advanced toward the vehicle, prompting the mother to jump in as well.

Reports say Carter got into the vehicle and began to drive at a high rate of speed from his mother’s home.

He reported said, “I’m gonna kill us, I’m gonna kill us all.”

The suspect eventually crashed and rolled the vehicle.

Derrick Carter is charged with:

  • Unlawful Conduct Towards a Child
  • Kidnapping
  • Use of Motor Vehicle Without Permission
  • Domestic Violence 1st Degree

He remains in the Aiken County Jail.
