Jihadists massacre 89 Christians in African nation, many slain at funeral service

In June, President Donald Trump revealed a peace agreement concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). However, insiders note that local fighters are genuinely trying to implement it only near the eastern city of Goma. Meanwhile, the ADF is ramping up its assaults. Predominantly Christian, this region faces aggression from the ADF, which comprises Islamist militants who, according to observers, aim to displace Christians and hinder their religious practices.

DRC forces are trying to push back against the ADF. But as one local source told Fox News Digital, “it’s largely insufficient.”

After last month’s attack, a spokesperson from the White House informed Fox News Digital that “the Trump administration strongly denounces this appalling violence against Christians in the DRC and remains committed to advancing the Washington Accords to restore peace to the area and cease the targeted killings.”

A knowledgeable Christian leader indicated that “if the Trump administration gives as much attention to the eastern DRC and the ADF issue as they do to other countries like Ukraine, they might exert pressure on the DRC government and assist in effectively addressing these ADF attacks.”

“If influential entities capable of making changes can view this situation as a family tragedy, like a child without a father, and recognize these people as individuals rather than statistics, it would make a difference. It’s incorrect to view their lives as less valuable or significant. Everyone has the right to live.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for comment, but did not receive a response.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this story.
