Jill Biden bows her head and wears somber black outfit as she attends Nasvhille shooting vigil

Jill Biden mourned the lives of six people who lost their lives at Covenant School along with hundreds of others outside of Nashville City Hall.

The First Lady wore all black as she stood next to the family of Mike Hill, who lost his life in the Monday morning shooting along with nine-year-olds Hallie Scruggs, William Kinney, Evelyn Dieckhaus, head of school Dr. Katherine Koonce, 60, and substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61.

Biden stood on a stage at One Public Square Park along with other Nashville officials while others joined in the memorial from below.

Shoulder-to-shoulder mourners stood while holding small candles with a paper stopper around it that read ‘Covenant.’

Singers Sheryl Crow and Margo Price also appeared at the candlelight vigil to lead the crowd in a song of prayer.

Crow led with her hit song ‘I Shall Believe’ while Price sang ‘Tears of Rage’ acapella.

Mayor John Cooper paid tribute to the victims and called the Monday mass shooting Nashville’s ‘worst day’.

‘When words just can’t carry the weight of what is in our hearts, we must reach out to each other to help each other carry the load,’ Cooper said.

Cooper then extended an invitation to the crowed to place a hand on each others shoulder in prayer.

‘We can only get through this tragedy together,’ Cooper said.

Nashville Chief of Police John Drake also took the podium to address mourners.

‘Our officers have cried and are crying with the Nashville community and the world,’ he said.

‘From your support, we gather strength and the will to carry on in the protection of our city. 

‘May you, too, be strong as we face the coming days.’

Strangers then greeted each other with a warm smile as they comforted one another.

Hill’s mourning family wiped away their tears as the vigil went on. All seven of his children were in attendance.

Shooter Audrey Hale, 28, was killed by two Metro Nashville cops at her former school on Monday morning after taking the lives of the three students and three members of staff within 14 minutes.

She had shot her way through the school’s glass side door before kicking it in and beginning her shooting rampage. 

Head of school Dr. Katherine Koonce abruptly ended a Zoom call when she heard the gunshots. Her body was found in the corridor and Chief Drake suggested she had had a ‘confrontation’ with Hale and tried to prevent her from attacking the children. 

Harrowing bodycam footage shows cops passing a body in the corridor as they rushed to take Hale down while she reloaded her gun on the second floor of the building. She had fired shots out of the window at approaching police vehicles. 

Hale was dead by 10.27am thanks to the heroic actions of officers Michael Collazo and Rex Engelbert who could be seen bravely traversing the school and running towards the gunshots.
