In a developing story out of Knoxville, Tennessee, it’s reported that the San Francisco Giants are on the verge of appointing Tony Vitello, the current head coach of Tennessee Baseball, as their new manager. This update comes from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, who shared the news on Saturday.

Currently, News 6 is awaiting a formal response from the University of Tennessee’s communications team for official confirmation regarding this potential move.

Tony Vitello is entering his ninth season at the helm of the Volunteers. Since taking charge in 2017, he has transformed the program, guiding the team to its first national championship in 2024.

His achievements following the championship win led to a lucrative five-year contract extension, positioning him as the highest-paid coach in college baseball at that time.

Under Vitello’s leadership, the Volunteers secured two SEC Regular-Season and Tournament Championships. The team advanced to the Super Regionals five times and made three College World Series appearances, ultimately clinching the title in 2024.

Should Vitello decide to depart, he would conclude his tenure at Tennessee with an impressive record of 341 wins and 131 losses, boasting a winning percentage of .722.
