JoJo Siwa recently revealed that a ruptured ovarian cyst led to an emergency room visit, just before she was set to perform at the Mall of America.
WASHINGTON — The 22-year-old entertainer, known for her role on “Dance Moms,” assured her fans she is “doing all right” following a health scare that occurred hours ahead of her planned Black Friday show.
Siwa updated her followers on TikTok, sharing an image of herself on a stretcher before her November 28 appearance in Minnesota. She explained she had been experiencing stomach pain for several days, which sharply intensified on Friday morning.
“Whenever I danced or even walked in the past few days, my stomach would hurt a lot,” Siwa recounted.
Initially, she suspected the pain was due to menstrual cramps, but it became so severe that breathing was difficult. Seeking relief, Siwa tried taking a bath, which only exacerbated the pain, causing her to feel on the verge of fainting or vomiting.
Concerned, Siwa reached out to her mother, who then contacted emergency medical technicians. Despite the EMTs noting her vitals were normal, the pain persisted, leading to her transport to the hospital. An ultrasound revealed that an ovarian cyst had burst and was bleeding into her abdomen, Siwa explained.
“That’s what was causing the excruciating pain,” she explained.
Siwa said she received pain medication and was discharged within two hours. Despite the scare, she still performed at the Mall of America later that day.
She told fans she is not “100% yet” and will need a follow-up appointment in the coming week, but doctors expect the issue to resolve on its own. For now, Siwa said she plans to keep working while monitoring her symptoms.
“The good news is we know what it is, and I think that brought a lot of peace of mind to me,” she said.
