The shooting happened in the 1200 block of Florida Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man passed away on Monday night after sustaining a gunshot wound to his “upper leg” in the Eastside area of Jacksonville, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. Highfill said at about 9:20 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 1200 block of Florida Avenue in reference to the man being shot.

When they arrived, Highfill said they found the man whose identity was not released by JSO, suffering from one gunshot wound to his leg.

According to Highfill, officers gave the man medical treatment until members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived on scene.

The man was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Highfill said.

“At this time, the circumstances that led to the victim’s death are unknown,” Highfill told First Coast News.

JSO’s homicide and crime scene detectives are actively investigating the deadly shooting.

If anyone has details about this incident, they are urged to contact JSO’s non-emergency line at 904-630-0500. For those who wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
