Palmdale Street shooting on Jacksonville's Northwest side leaves man dead

Authorities in Jacksonville are on the hunt for a suspect following a shooting that took place on Sunday night at a Westside apartment complex. The incident unfolded at the Valencia Way Apartments located on Labelle Street, drawing a swift response from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office after multiple gunshots rang out around 6:15 p.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a young man in his early twenties with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Remarkably, the injury was not life-threatening. Initial reports from the sheriff’s office indicate that the victim was outside near one of the apartment buildings when the shooting occurred. Despite his injuries, he managed to make his way into a nearby apartment where the resident promptly called 911 for assistance.

Investigators at the site found nine used shell casings, painting a picture of the tense moments that unfolded within the complex. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office continues to piece together the events of that night as they search for the individual responsible for this unsettling act of violence.

When they arrived, police found a man in his early-20s suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder.

In an initial investigation, the sheriff’s office said it learned the victim was outside near an apartment building when he was shot. He managed to escape into a nearby apartment, where the tenant called 911 to report the shooting.

Nine used shell casings were found at the scene, JSO said.

Descriptions of the suspect or suspects are limited. Police say they may have been wearing all black clothing and a red face covering at the time of the shooting.

Surveillance video is being reviewed for more details on what happened. Anyone with additional information on the incident is encouraged to reach out to JSO directly or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
