JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation after discovering a man and woman fatally shot on a dirt road near Betz-Tiger Preserve late Friday night.

JSO Sergeant Steve Rudlaff said at approximately 10 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 15000 block of Saw Pit Road in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found the man and woman shot and unresponsive on a dirt road, according to Rudlaff. Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and declared both victims dead, Rudlaff said.

Rudlaff told First Coast News the man and woman were both in their 50s.

“We have several people detained and they have been transported to the Police Memorial Building for interviews,” Rudlaff stated. “Currently, we are unaware of the circumstances or the nature of the relationships among those involved.”

Rudlaff added that detectives from JSO’s homicide and crime scene units are leading the investigation into the double homicide, and the sheriff’s office considers this an isolated event with “no additional threat to the community.”

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide tips anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
