Sandy James’s mother described her as a generous person who loved her job. JSO says she worked until two days before her death.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shared Friday that Officer Sandy James died last week at the age of 58.

James had been employed with JSO starting in 2004. Initially, she served as a patrol officer and subsequently took on the role of an evidence technician before receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2016.

She continued working in the JSO building after her diagnosis and remained on the job until two days before her death.

“Despite her illness, she maintained a positive outlook and was known for her constant smile,” JSO wrote in a statement.

Her mother, Britta James, remembers her as an extremely generous person.

“Sandy battled cancer for nine years with incredible determination,” she stated. “She was passionate about her work… whenever she noticed someone in need, she put her utmost effort into assisting them throughout her life.”
