JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his late 30s was fatally shot on Wheat Road in Jacksonville’s Westside early Thursday, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. La’Tosha Thompson mentioned that officers arrived at the scene of the shooting around 4 a.m. in the 7400 block of Wheat Road, where they discovered the man with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Thompson, the man died after being taken to a local hospital. He lived in the area of where he was found, Thompson said.

Thompson added that the JSO’s Homicide Unit is attempting to obtain surveillance footage to help identify any suspects, and witnesses are actively assisting in JSO’s investigation of the incident.

Juan Cabrera, who lives in the area where the shooting took place, told First Coast News he’s seen an increase of people shooting near the neighborhood and said just two weeks ago, his car windshield was shattered by a stray bullet.
