A law enforcement officer was fatally wounded while on duty in Kansas on Saturday night as he responded to a domestic violence incident, according to officials who communicated with Fox News Digital.
According to the Hays Police Department, police responded to a report of a domestic violence situation on Downing Street in Hays, Kansas.
When the officer arrived at the scene, the suspect opened fire.
The officer was struck and rushed to a nearby medical facility, where he was later declared dead. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was found dead at the location.
“On September 27 at 10:58 p.m., officers from the Hays Police Department answered a domestic violence call on the 2200 block of Downing Street. Upon their arrival, gunfire was directed at the responding officer,” the police reported in a statement.
“The suspect was confirmed dead at the scene. The officer was taken to a local hospital but could not survive the injuries received. There are no other suspects being pursued in this case. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will oversee the inquiry,” the statement explained.
