Kate Middleton admits she's 'not able to function normally' after cancer treatment

Kate Middleton made an emotional admission about her life post-cancer treatment.

While visiting Colchester Hospital on Wednesday, the Princess of Wales described the “really, really difficult” period of her life.

“You put on a kind of courageous front, showing stoicism during treatment,” she described. “Once treatment is over, it’s expected that you can just move on and return to normal, but in reality, that isn’t the case.”

The 43-year-old observed that even though she was “no longer necessarily under the care of the clinical team,” she found herself unable “to perform daily routines at home as she once did.”

Middleton emphasized, “Having someone to support you by talking you through, and guiding you through the post-treatment phase is incredibly helpful.”

Finding a “new normal … takes time,” the royal continued.

“It’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be,” she said. “But the reality is you go through hard times.”

Middleton went public with her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, two months after stepping back from the spotlight to undergo abdominal surgery.

“[Prince] William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she wrote at the time, referencing the couple’s three kids — Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.

She completed her chemotherapy treatment in September 2024, and four months later, revealed her cancer-free status in a lengthy statement.

“I remain focused on recovery,” she wrote in January.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust.”

Middleton has been slowly resuming her royal roles in the last couple of months, most recently attending Trooping the Colour in June.

She appeared in good spirits alongside her little ones — and adorably matched Charlotte in blue ensembles.

However, Middleton unexpectedly pulled out of the Royal Ascot later that same month.
