Katie Porter's anti-Trump speech at Democratic Convention

In a bid to revive her faltering campaign for California governor, Katie Porter has turned once again to her signature whiteboard, this time delivering a bold, unfiltered message to voters: “F— Trump!”

The former congresswoman, whose campaign has faced significant setbacks following leaked videos that captured her berating a staff member and experiencing a meltdown during a television interview, displayed the controversial phrase on a small whiteboard. She vocally emphasized the message to a crowd of hundreds at the California Democratic Convention held in San Francisco over the weekend.

Throughout the convention, criticism of President Trump emerged as a prevalent theme, with Democratic candidates across various races voicing their opposition to the White House’s policies. Yet, Porter’s attempt to harness this sentiment through a provocative whiteboard display, coupled with an effort to ignite the crowd with a “F— Trump” chant, failed to gain traction. Her performance was met with a lackluster response from the largely silent audience.

Struggling to maintain her momentum, Porter stumbled through her delivery, eventually repeating with diminished enthusiasm, “Yeah, that’s right, F— Trump.”

But the response to Porter’s white board schtick and trying to kick off her speech with a “F— Trump” chant landed with a thud, as the former congresswoman stammered in front of a mostly quiet convention audience.

“Yeah, that’s right,” Porter said half-heartedly. “F— Trump.”

“Together, we’re going to kick Trump’s a— in November,” Porter continued. “I’ll stand up to Trump and his cronies, just like I did in Congress. With or without my whiteboard. But this election is about more than defeating Trump.”

Porter, who frequently employed a whiteboard to excoriate corporate execs in congressional hearings, is one of seven Democratic candidates who are gumming up a race that could hand the June primary election to two front-running Republicans: former Fox News host Steve Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.

California has not had a Republican governor since Arnold Schwarzenegger left office in 2011.

Porter’s message to voters skews decidedly to the left of most candidates for governor.

In her speech, she proposed single-payer health care, zero tuition for University of California and California State University students, and eliminating the state income tax for people who earn less than $100,000 income.

But just to make sure she drilled the point home, Porter wasn’t done cursing.

“I’m running for governor,” she said, “because I’m willing and ready to get s— done.”

Porter, who was accused of verbally abusing her ex-husband, also emphasized her gender as a selling point.

“We have never had a governor in high heels,” Porter said, raising a foot to note that she was indeed wearing heels. “I think it’s about damn time.”
