JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Khalen Saunders, a defensive tackle, has arrived in the 904 area bringing with him Super Bowl experience, a vibrant personality, and an intriguing history of having played quarterback.

Saunders said he found out about the trade shortly after Sunday’s game and was immediately excited to join his new team.

“It was unexpected. I’m really thrilled to be here, but indeed, that’s how it went. The joy hit me almost immediately. I thought, wow. This is moving fast, but I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else,” Saunders expressed.

Drafted in the third round, Saunders has played vital roles on Super Bowl champion teams and now offers essential depth and leadership to a developing defensive line. Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen, having faced Saunders twice last year in Tampa, is well aware of his capabilities.

“There’s no doubt he can bolster us in the center. He’s difficult to shift, hard to double-team, and has some initial agility. He’ll introduce significant competition and depth to that group,” Coen noted.

New defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile also made a strong first impression on Saunders.

“He’s a good guy, who knows what he wants,” Saunders said.

And an interesting tidbit: Long before dominating the line, Saunders dabbled as a quarterback in middle school, showcasing his unexpected versatility alongside his power at the front line.
