Khanna: Trump Administration Is 'Striking Innocents' Like Putin

During Friday’s edition of C-SPAN’s “Ceasefire,” Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) criticized the Trump administration, comparing its actions to those of Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly concerning “striking innocents in the Caribbean.”

Host Dasha Burns highlighted the situation in Venezuela, noting that recent military actions were part of a larger strategy towards the nation. She mentioned President Trump’s consideration of land strikes in Venezuela, suggesting these could occur soon. Burns pointed out the ongoing tension between the executive and legislative branches over authority on tariffs and decisions of war and peace. Addressing Congressman Khanna, she questioned the extent to which Congress is being sidelined regarding Venezuela.

Congressman Khanna responded by opposing any war aimed at regime change. “The American people voted for Trump because he promised to avoid regime change and endless wars,” he remarked.

He further expressed support for Representative Don Bacon as Secretary of Defense, stating he would honor legal principles.

Khanna elaborated, “Representative Bacon respects the law and understands the severe impact of targeting innocents in the Caribbean. Such actions could lead figures like Xi Jinping or Putin to disregard international laws and norms. America operates differently, adhering to rules and standards. While I might not always agree with him, I trust that he would uphold the Constitution and the rule of law.”
