Officers say the suspect fled from a home on NE Maple Lane Monday morning.
LAKE CITY, Fla. — The Lake City Police Department is seeking help from the community to locate a man accused of threatening his spouse with a shotgun.
The suspect, Gregory Stockton, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
A press release reports that officers responded Monday morning to a call from a woman requesting a police escort to retrieve her belongings following a dispute with her spouse, identified as Stockton, on NE Maple Lane.
During the disagreement, she alleged that he retrieved a short-barreled shotgun from a gray bag, pointed it at her, and threatened, “The only way you’re leaving is in a body bag.”
Officers attempted to arrest Stockton, but he reportedly fled the scene on a pink bicycle. He was last believed to be seen entering his home from the back.
With help from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, a perimeter was established; however, Stockton was not found.
Upon executing a search warrant at Stockton’s residence, officers discovered a shotgun in a gray bag and several shotgun shells, matching the victim’s description. A judge approved an arrest warrant soon after.
“This incident involved a firearm, creating a dangerous situation. Our officers acted promptly to protect the victim and secure the location,” Chief of Police Gerald Butler stated. “We appreciate the assistance of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and remain focused on apprehending this suspect to prevent further harm.”
