The NBA has handed down a one-game suspension to Lakers’ standout Jaxson Hayes following an altercation involving the Washington Wizards’ mascot, G-Wiz, during player introductions.

The incident unfolded unexpectedly when Hayes shoved the costumed mascot, sending G-Wiz crashing into a nearby performer on the court.

This episode took place on January 30, during a game where the Wizards were defeated 142-111.

Fortunately, G-Wiz emerged from the confrontation without injuries. There is no confirmation regarding the status of the performer involved. Hayes will serve his suspension on Thursday as the Lakers face off against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Now in his seventh NBA season, Hayes holds averages of 6.8 points and 3.9 rebounds, transitioning from a potential starting role to more of a rotational presence.

With speculation swirling around LeBron James’ possible exit at the season’s end, the Lakers may undergo significant changes. This could impact Hayes’ future with the team, potentially leading to either a trade or an increase in his playing time.

With LeBron James’ rumored departure from the team at the end of the year, changes could come for the Lakers next year, and those changes could either include moving Hayes or getting him increased playing time.

The Lakers currently sit at a disappointing 5th place in the Western Conference standings, nine games out of first place.
