Duval County Public Schools implemented a lockout at Atlantic Coast High School as a precautionary measure.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Wednesday morning, Atlantic Coast High School was placed under a temporary lockout after gunfire was reported in the vicinity. The restriction has since been lifted, according to Duval County Public Schools.
In a communication sent to families at 10:32 a.m., the school district assured everyone that students and staff were unharmed. An additional update was provided at 11:22 a.m., confirming the lockout had ended and reiterating the safety of all individuals on campus.
The following are the messages communicated to families:
“Hello Atlantic Coast families. This is Duval County Public Schools. We want to reassure you that all students and staff are safe. There have been reports of gunfire in the surrounding area. As a precaution, the school has been placed on a lockout. During a lockout, no one is permitted to enter or exit the school to ensure everyone’s safety. We appreciate your patience and will keep you updated.”
“Hello again Atlantic Coast families, this is Duval County Public Schools with positive news. Law enforcement has advised that it is safe to lift the lockout. Students and staff are secure, and the school is returning to its regular schedule. Thank you for your patience during these safety procedures. Have a great day.”
